Workers' Welfare & Labour Rights pursues strategic collaborations with stakeholders from the public and private sectors to ensure a lasting legacy beyond the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Our stakeholders share our commitment towards improving workers' wellbeing, and their specialist knowledge helps us intensify our efforts in securing the highest welfare standards for our workers.
The Supreme Committee of Delivery & Legacy (SC) continues to engage with local and international government and human rights bodies, ensuring we stay abreast with the latest developments in laws and legislation concerning workers' rights, while sharing key learnings and achievements of our journey.
Centre for Sport & Human Rights (CSHR)
The SC is a member of the CSHR's Advisory Council, joining an alliance of intergovernmental organisations, governments, sports bodies and trade unions to establish best practices and labour rights in the world of sports.
Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB)
The SC is a member of the Strategic Hospitality Working Group that includes other local and international stakeholders, such as the IHRB, Qatar's Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour & Social Affairs and the International Labour Organization. The working group has published a guidance tool for hotel operators to support fair recruitment while also advising on sector-specific best practices.
International Labour Organization (ILO)
The SC continues to engage with the UN's ILO as we make steady improvements to the wellbeing of workers on our sites. A key collaboration was the heat stress study commissioned by the ILO and the Ministry of Labour to study the impact of heat stress on workers in Qatar. The findings revealed that heat stress was not prevalent on our project sites due to the comprehensive mitigation strategies already in place for our workers.
Ministry of Labour (MoL)
Our close collaboration with MoL is ensuring our workers' welfare policies inform the country's labour legislation. Together with the International Labour Organization, we are working towards the nationwide implementation of joint worker-employer committees modelled after our Workers' Welfare Forums. The MoL also serves as an integral part of our robust four-tier audit system to ensure the enforcement of the Workers' Welfare Standards.
National Human Rights Committee (NHRC)
In February 2021, the SC and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC (Q22) signed a memorandum of understanding with the NHRC to collaborate in raising awareness of human rights issues, while continuing to ensure all aspects of human rights are considered in the delivery of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
