AS Roma player and Jamaica national team defender Allyson Swaby will be a special guest on Generation Amazing’s Instagram Live stream this Wednesday, 2 September at 4 PM Doha time (GMT+3).
The 23-year-old centre-back previously played for Icelandic club KF Fjardabyggd before joining AS Roma in 2018, and was also a part of the Jamaica national team which competed at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™.
During the session, Swaby will discuss gender equality, a cause that forms a pillar of the Generation Amazing programme, as well as topics around social justice and women in sport.
In the lead up to the Live segment, Moza Al Mohannadi, Generation Amazing’s Marketing & Communications Director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Allyson Swaby from AS Roma, our partner club, to our Generation Amazing Live segments on Instagram.”
Al Mohannadi added: “Allyson is a young and promising player and is as outspoken on the importance of gender equality as we are. She has already achieved much so it will be really exciting to hear about her personal journey and for her to give insight to our female participants seeking to pursue a career in sport and beyond.”
Last week’s Instagram Live programme featured Leeds United captain and Scotland international, Liam Cooper. The player made history last season as the first captain at Leeds since 1990 to achieve a promotion from the English Football League Championship to the Premier League.
Those that tuned in gained insight into his community work, footballing values and recent success with Leeds United - another Generation Amazing partner football club. The star also shared inspiring tips and a glimpse into his career triumphs to youth watching at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on his humanitarian work, Cooper said: “I now have an unbelievable platform to be able to give back, to go out to these communities.”
Offering some words of inspiration for young people hoping to improve their leadership skills in sport and other fields, he added:
“As a captain, I try to lead by example, I always try to be there for my team mates…we’re lucky in our team, we’ve got a lot of experience and a lot of youth who are willing to learn or ask if they’re not sure about something, that can be an unbreakable asset.”
Cooper concluded: “Never give up, there will be a lot of sacrifices but never give up and you’ll eventually make it, stay in school and really knuckle down.”
Over the upcoming week, Generation Amazing, in collaboration with Education Above All (EAA), will highlight the global problem of attacks on education and the harm caused to children and communities on the International Day to Protect Education from Attack on September 9. The programme will seek to raise awareness around the issue leading up to the day under the hashtag #UnitetoProtect.
A Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) social and human legacy programme, Generation Amazing has now reached over 500,000 beneficiaries across the Middle East and Asia. The football for development programme teaches skills like leadership, organisation, communication and teamwork as well as inclusion values, and aims to positively impact 1 million people by 2022.
