The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) recently held a webinar to update local community leaders on its Volunteer Programme in relation to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Organised by the SC’s Community Engagement Division, the event was held to build advocacy for the Volunteer Programme among the numerous community groups across the country, while showcasing the SC’s commitment to engaging with expat communities in the build-up to Qatar 2022.
Key details about volunteer recruitment and roles were shared, along with information about the accommodation strategy. Since launching a call-out for volunteers in 2018, more than 250,000 people have expressed an interest in supporting the delivery of Qatar 2022. During the interim period, thousands of people have supported various SC events, including stadium inaugurations and special activations around the world, including in Russia during the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
Khalid Al Suwaidi, the SC’s Stakeholder Relations Senior Manager, praised the efforts and enthusiasm of Qatar’s communities in relation to the Volunteer Programme.
“As an output of this webinar, we are expecting community leaders to conduct similar sessions on our behalf to communicate our Volunteer Programme’s plans and encourage their members to take part in this initiative and support the hosting of the tournament.”
Among the 44 community leaders who attended the webinar was Palma Libotte, Chairperson of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar. She revealed the impact of the Volunteer Programme on her community.
“It’s an amazing experience to be involved in an event like the World Cup,” said Libotte. “We really appreciate the workshops organised by the SC – they offer a great opportunity to learn about all the different aspects of volunteering. I’m really looking forward to the local Italian community contributing to this upcoming tournament.”
Mexican community leader Yezenia Navarro also expressed her excitement at collaborating with the SC. “I am grateful and honoured to communicate Qatar’s updates in relation to the World Cup with my fellow Mexicans in Qatar,” said Navarro. “Our community members are ready to provide Qatar with all the support it needs to host a historical World Cup in two years’ time.”
Safeerurahman, Head of Football at the Indian Sports Centre, added: “It’s truly exciting to be actively involved in World Cup preparations. As the largest expat community in Qatar, the Indian community is committed to doing all we can, every step of the way. I’m looking forward to sharing knowledge with my fellow Indians about the Volunteer Programme. Just as we’ve done over the past decade, the Indian community stands strong with the SC on the road to 2022.”
