The location of the eighth proposed host venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ has been confirmed and will be in Doha's Al Thumama neighborhood. This announcement was made by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi on Qatar national television on the fifth anniversary of the historic bid win to host the first tournament in the Middle East. This Week in Numbers we also look back on the Tarsheed 22 awards and the creative solutions devised by local youths to lead a healthy life through sports.

5: Number of years since Qatar won hosting rights to the 2022 FIFA World Cup™. In the years that have passed since then, the country has witnessed progress in various sectors as it prepares to stage the showpiece event – stadium works, public infrastructure projects, energy conservation and community engagement to name just a few.

8: The number of confirmed stadium locations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™. Two venues were announced on the fifth anniversary of the bid win – namely Ras Abou Aboud area near the Hamad International Airport and Al Thumama. Six venues are already under construction: Al Wakrah Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City, Al Rayyan Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, QF Stadium and Lusail Stadium.

1,600: The number in tonnes by which carbon emissions were decreased annually as part of the Tarsheed 22 project, a partnership between the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA). The 22 schools, all located near the various World Cup stadium venues, reduced their annual consumption of electricity by 3 Gigawatt-hours and saved QR 750,000 annually in the first phase of the project.

25: Number of student teams from high schools and universities who will design and implement campaigns to raise awareness and bring about behaviour change on the theme of 'Healthy Living through Sports'. This is part of the SC's educational initiative to encourage students to develop marketing campaigns around issues such as healthy living through sports, women's participation in sport and sustainability.

2: Number of United Arab Emirates (UAE) footballers who were nominees for the Asian Football Confederation's annual Asian Player of the Year award – playmaker Omar Abdulrahman and striker Ahmed Khalil. The third nominee was Zheng Zhi of China. Khalil was announced the winner at an award ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday. "I look forward to playing in the Asian Cup on home soil in 2019, and then I hope we can qualify for Qatar 2022," a proud Khalil told the media after being declared the winner.
