The British Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Nicholas Hopton, visited the Brazil 2014 Fan Zone at Katara. The Ambassador visited during the Netherlands vs. Costa Rica FIFA World Cup™ Quarter Final and noted how impressed he was by "the amazing facilities" and the cooling technology on which he commented, "It's incredible that at midnight, whilst the temperature is 35 degrees celsius outside, we are sitting comfortably watching a football match in an open-air fan zone".

Ambassador Hopton also took the opportunity to meet with the Supreme Committee's Secretary General, Hassan Al-Thawadi. Discussing their meeting Ambassador Hopton said, "I was very pleased to meet with the Secretary General to discuss the United Kingdom's partnership with Qatar to deliver a successful World Cup in 2022".
