The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy's (SC) Workers' Welfare Committee hosted a special event on Friday at the 2014 Brazil Fan Zone to show their appreciation for approximately 350 workers and service staff who are contributing to the delivery of the FIFA World Cup™ in 2022.
The day-long event at the cooled Fan Zone recognized workersfrom three companies who are working on the new Al Wakrah Stadium and the Al Bayt-Al Khor City Stadium, including HBK, Amana, and Bin Omran Trading & Contracting as well as service providers from companies that provide security, housekeeping and catering services to the Supreme Committee offices including the ISC Group, Aamal, and Al Asmakh.
The event featured live entertainment, a range of football-related activities including mini-beach football and special gifts for every attendee, all enjoyed in the comfort of the Fan Zone's innovative cooling technology.
"We are all enjoying every part of the Fan Zone," said Mohmaed Kasim from Nepal working for Aamal. "This makes us feel like we are a part of something bigger, part of a team."
Farah Al Muftah, Chairwoman of the SC's Workers' Welfare Committee said: "An event as big as the World Cup takes an entire community, people from all over the world, to deliver and today recognizes all of you. Everyone here is a very important part of the community that is making history, delivering the first World Cup in the Middle East."
Shinde Limbanath from India working for HBK, said: "The Fan Zone is an awesome place, it has great entertainment for all of us. We are enjoying today and are looking forward to the World Cup being here in Qatar in 2022!"
An important part of the SC's mission is to generate excitement about football and the World Cup. In addition to Friday's special event, the SC partnered with RAF-Thani Foundation to sponsor iftar tents in Al Khor and Al Wakra where workers on SC projects, along with members of the community, can enjoy a free meal and live screenings of 2014 FIFA World Cup™ matches in Brazil for the entire month of Ramadan.
The SC Workers' Welfare Committee was formed to oversee the SC's Workers' Welfare initiatives, including the development and implementation of Workers' Welfare Standards across all projects;monitoring compliance with standards through inspections and audits;engagement with stakeholders in government and private sector on issues related to worker welfare;and the development and implementation of projects to help workers gain new skills outside of their profession, improving employability upon return to their home countries.
The Workers' Welfare Committee is an important part of the Supreme Committee's mission to leave a sustainable human legacy for Qatar long after 2022.
