Advocates from Generation Amazing – a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ legacy programme – are supporting COVID-19 relief efforts in India.
Sadique Rahman and Saleem Puthiyottil have been working with a team of aid workers to organise food deliveries and transport for sick patients.
Rahman, who has been involved with Generation Amazing since 2015, said he applied skills learned during the programme to support the community in Kerala.
“We are connecting with local people, engaging with them and providing direction for moving forward,” said Rahman. “It’s like all good teamwork – we are uniting the right people throughout the process.”
Rahman and Puthiyottil have been working alongside the Gooseberry Club in Kerala to deliver vital community support. The Club had previously worked with Rahman to support relief efforts during the 2019 Kerala flood.
Puthiyottil said: “It has been a pleasure to be back in touch with Sadique after our time at Generation Amazing and work together again at such a crucial time for our people.”
During his time with Generation Amazing, Rahman has won an award for leading football for development training sessions and helping workers become coaches in Qatar. He has encouraged participants to develop their leadership, teamwork and communication skills through Generation Amazing methodology and inspired them to become important members of their communities.
On top of establishing a youth club in Al Khor, in 2016, Rahman has volunteered as an advocate for the Generation Amazing Workers’ Programme at Barwa Sports Complex. He has helped to promote and expand the programme, which has grown from 20 participants initially to more than 300.
