Generation Amazing hosted a range of activities this week to mark Qatar National Sports Day and the onboarding of new ambassador Tim Cahill.

The Qatar 2022 legacy programme organised a training session for local schoolchildren at Aspire Dome to welcome new Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) ambassador Tim Cahill. During the event, the Australia football legend took part in several exercises before reading some of his Tiny Timmy children’s book to the participants.

Cahill will support a number of SC legacy programmes, including Generation Amazing, in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup™.

Generation Amazing’s Marketing & Communications Director, Moza Al Mohannadi said: “We’re thrilled to have Tim Cahill joining our team as an ambassador and doing his part to motivate the children in the Generation Amazing programme, something he is obviously very passionate about.”

Cahill said he was excited to be embarking on a new journey with Generation Amazing.

“I am very excited about being involved with Generation Amazing and inspiring kids to follow their dreams. I’m inspired by the work Generation Amazing is doing in Qatar and around the world.”

Meanwhile, on Qatar National Sports Day, Generation Amazing hosted football for development activities for staff and the public at the newly opened Al Bayt Sports Park, in the precinct of Al Bayt Stadium – which is set to host matches up to the semi-finals stage during Qatar 2022.

Children aged 8-12 from two local schools were invited to take part in the activities and engage with Generation Amazing master coaches. The sessions focused on teamwork, organisation and communication.

A number of SC ambassadors, including Qatari football legends Khalid Salman and Ibrahim Khalfan, supported the activities. And, in a surprise visit, Algerian football legend Rabah Madjer also turned up to provide a pep talk to the participants.

Generation Amazing utilises the power of football to enhance knowledge and help people develop major life skills, like communication and teambuilding.

Generation Amazing has reached half a million beneficiaries around the world since being launched in 2009. The programme aims to reach 1 million beneficiaries by 2022.
