Glasgow Rangers have won the 8th Al Kass International Cup in a thrilling penalty shoot-out victory over AS Roma.

The 10-day tournament features Under-17 youth teams from some of the world's most famous and decorated clubs, concluded this weekend, with the Scottish outfit bagging the trophy and $75,000 prize.

Organised by Al Kass together with Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatar Football Association, the tournament is sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).

Nasser Al Khater, Chief of Tournament Readiness & Experience Group at the SC, said: "We're proud to be strategic partners of this year's competition once again, and supporting some of the world's best footballing talent to learn and develop."

Al Khater added: "Qatar is a perfect hub for emerging players and we hope that those visiting can experience the range of facilities at Aspire that helped our youthful national team lift the 2019 Asian Cup."

"A big congratulations to the winners. It has been a great tournament and we hope to see as many of them as possible in four years' time at the 2022 FIFA World Cup," he concluded.

Twelve teams compete for the tournament, with Aspire Academy, Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, AS Roma, Bayern Munich, Spartak Moscow, Kashiwa Reysol, Raja Club Athletic, Altinordu FK, Etoile Sportive Du Sahel and Suwon Bluewings competing alongside the Gers this year.

For the first time the video assistant referee (VAR) was used to review decisions made by the head referee with the use of video footage and a headset for communication.

The tournament featured female referees from all over the world for the first time. The 27 referees and 48 assistants were selected for the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019™.
