Josoor Institute has successfully delivered its Professional Diploma Programmes in Sports Management and Major Events Management, online.

The course helps professionals from the sports and events industry build on their expertise and skill set to help deliver the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and other major sporting events.

Developed and delivered in partnership with leading business school SDA Bocconi School of Management, the programmes are being taught fully online due to COVID restrictions. The classes were delivered by SDA Bocconi senior faculty members and a team of guest faculty experts and practitioners from 6 September to 10 September.

In the Sports Management Programme, Professors Marco Morelli and Antonio Palmieri focused on linking strategy and performance, including strategy formulation, sports finance, financial sustainability, and measuring business performance drivers. The guest speaker was Javier Sobrino, Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer at FC Barcelona, who shared insight and interacted with the delegates on the vision, goals and strategy of one of the most important football clubs in the world.

The Major Events Management Programme led by Professor Deborah Raccagni and Beatrice Manzoni in collaboration with Josoor Institute’s advisor Professor Nicola McCullough focused on why people management makes the difference in the event industry. Case studies for this came from the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Qatar National Volunteering Strategy. Guest speaker Marco Ruzza, Creative Director & Project Manager at Joravision, shared his insight and first-hand experience with delegates as a designer and show builder for theme parks, zoos, family entertainment centres, tourist destinations and museums. Marco’s interview with Josoor can be found here.

Commenting on the conclusion of the block, Afraa Al Noaimi, Executive Director of Josoor Institute, said: “Delegates were once again challenged and taken out of their comfort zone as they developed knowledge and skills to help them in their day-to-day work and future careers. A good example of this was the challenging Finance class taught by Professor Morelli, especially for delegates with some working knowledge of the subject. I am also delighted the programme in Major Events Management featured Josoor’s work on training volunteers for test events in the run up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. I also want to reiterate how proud we are of the team for making sure learning continued during the pandemic, something that means a lot to me and my colleagues at Josoor.”

Discussing the delivery of online learning, Professor Dino Ruta, Academic Director of the Diploma Programmes said:

“It is always stimulating for my colleagues and I, to interact with such a diverse and enthusiastic group of delegates in the Diploma Programmes, especially in online delivery mode, which is working really well. The personalities and competencies of the delegates, as well as their perspectives and questions they share with us throughout, are so valuable to us, as we help them strengthen their knowledge and skill set for their current and future projects. I hope sooner rather than later the conditions will be there to get together with this fantastic group and our faculty and guests again, offline in Doha!”

Josoor Institute and SDA Bocconi School of Management will soon open enrolment for the 2021 Diploma Programme in Sports Management and Major Events Management, featuring new content, speakers and activities.
