Leeds United captain and Scottish international, Liam Cooper, will appear on Generation Amazing (GA)’s Instagram Live this Tuesday.
The player made history this past season as the first captain at Leeds since 1990 to achieve a promotion from the English Football League Championship to the Premier League.
Cooper won the Championship to move up with his squad into the highest-level in the English League system back in July 2020.
The centre-back has also represented his national team Scotland at both junior and senior level and will go live with Generation Amazing from 4 PM (GMT+3) in what will mark GA’s 19th week of online streams.
Those tuning in will gain insight into the player’s community work, footballing values like leadership taught in the Generation Amazing programme, as well as hear all about his recent success with Leeds United - Generation Amazing’s football club partner. The star will also be sharing inspiring tips and a glimpse into his career triumphs to youth watching at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In August 2019, Cooper auctioned off his signed football boots for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund. He then launched alongside Leeds Foundation, a new Leeds club Skills Centre programme for kids, with the first course titled ‘Play Like…Liam Cooper’ and focused around the art of defending.
In the lead up to the Live segment, Nasser Al Khori, Generation Amazing’s Programmes Director, said:
“It’s an honour to welcome Liam Cooper, captain of our partner football club, Leeds United. We are thrilled to celebrate Liam and the team’s success this past season and look forward to hearing more about Liam’s community work for children and youth at Leeds Foundation.”
“Leeds United and Generation Amazing have worked together to train youth across Leeds in coaching for life-skills development and we are delighted to continue to do more with Liam and Leeds.”
Al Khori added: “Liam is living proof that a football career is full of successes and challenges. It’s obvious that throughout his career he’s relied on his ability to respect himself, his team and the opposition. He epitomises Generation Amazing’s’ values and we can’t wait to hear advice from him on how building these skills as a young person, can lead to a better future, on and off the field.”
In last week’s Instagram Live sessions, Qatar’s first women’s national football team goalkeeper and GA coach, Shaima Abdullah, and Al Wakrah Sports Club under-12s head coach and GA coach, Islam El sayed Khamis, had a live chat about their experiences in football.
The coaches later led a GA session tutorial and discussing their experiences coaching children across Doha schools with GA. In the session and in talking about her experience with Generation Amazing, Abdullah said:
“I have always loved football and sport - I have never given up on it despite it being tough to play it while I was growing up. Soon, I was told about Generation Amazing and I was really happy that I was able be a part of the programme.”
Generation Amazing also launched its third Inspiring Youth: A webinar series last week. UNICEF and Goal Click featured in the session, alongside some of the world’s leading sport for development, charity and educational organisations and institutes.
The webinar continued to explore how the transformative power of sport can uplift communities during the pandemic, and beyond.
