The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) – the body responsible for delivering the infrastructure required to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ – has unveiled renowned sports broadcaster Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari as an official ambassador.

Saadon – a former professional tennis player on the ATP Tour and Qatar Davis Cup representative – is a widely respected senior sports presenter with Qatari network beIN SPORTS, known to millions across the MENA region. In addition to his extensive journalism experience, he has been a long-standing supporter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ and the SC – and has supported numerous initiatives in the past.

He has been an ambassador for the SC's flagship innovation award, Challenge 22, volunteered for the international football for development programme Generation Amazing, and volunteered at the Accessibility Forum – the SC's ground-breaking initiative to ensure the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ is the most accessible in the tournament's history.

Following a ceremony at Al Bidda Tower, in the presence of SC Secretary General, H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, Assistant Secretary General for Tournament Affairs, Nasser Al Khater, and Communications Director, Fatma Al Nuaimi, Saadon was presented with an SC shirt to officially welcome him into the ambassador programme.

The programme was launched in 2018 to work with prominent local, regional and international figures to help promote, support and enhance the wide-reaching legacy work being carried out by the SC.

As an official ambassador, Saadon will represent the SC's legacy programmes – including but not limited to Generation Amazing, Challenge 22, Community Engagement and the Josoor Institute – in Qatar and across the region. In addition to his regional appearances, he will also represent the SC at two global initiatives, including the Generation Amazing activation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

In addition, Saadon will also join forces with many of the SC's national stakeholders, including Qatar Football Association, Qatar Tourism Authority, Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar Foundation and Qatar Airways.

Following the announcement, Saadon said: "It is with great privilege that today I officially join the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy as an ambassador.

"Like every Qatari national, I remember exactly where I was the moment it was announced that our country would be the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. To stand here today as an official member of the team, working to ensure the enormous legacy potential of the tournament is realised, is a great responsibility – and a great honour.

"I would like to thank the SC for providing this opportunity to me, and I look forward to our work together over the coming years."

Al Thawadi said: "We are delighted to welcome Mohammed Saadon as an official SC ambassador. Mohammed has supported our work and lent his services to a number of our initiatives over many years and he has been a prominent supporter of our journey from day one – and it is with great pleasure that today we are able to formalise that relationship and further strengthen our collaboration.

"We look forward to working closely together over the coming years, to further secure the legacy the 2022 FIFA World Cup will bring to not only Qatar, but also the region and the world."

The confirmation follows the announcement in March that 2010 FIFA World Cup™ winner Xavi Hernández would become the SC's first ambassador. The legendary former FC Barcelona midfielder, who has won more than 30 major honours during his glittering career, will help the SC to promote various projects that harness the power of football to bring about positive social change.
