Former Argentina and AS Roma defender Nicolás Burdisso will join Generation Amazing (GA) to share insights from his outstanding career and discuss the values which have helped him to succeed on GA’s Instagram Live on Wednesday 23 September at 4PM Doha time (GMT+3).
The former Boca Juniors player will share his advice on how to stay active and inspired during the COVID-19 pandemic – as well as answering questions from the audience during the session.
Burdisso won four Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana, with Inter Milan before making a transfer in 2009 to AS Roma, Generation Amazing’s football club partner.
The Argentina defender played 49 times for his national team, representing his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ and then again at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. He reached the final of the Copa America with Argentina in 2007 and made another appearance at the 2011 tournament.
Ahead of the football legend’s participation in the GA Live programme, Moza Al Mohannadi, Marketing & Communications Director at GA, said, “It’s so important to us at Generation Amazing that we not only ensure the programme continues to impact the lives of people during this difficult period, but also that we are able to join forces with inspiring figures from the global footballing community to engage with our youth through this time.”
Al Mohannadi added, “We are delighted to welcome the former Argentina and AS Roma player on GA Live to share his recollections from the game and also his insights on the positive sporting values we believe in here at Generation Amazing.”
GA Live sessions ensure a continuity to the programme’s learning outcomes. They aim to inspire a generation of conscientious youth advocates to embody and promote positive values such as inclusion and gender equality, as well as skills like leadership, communication, organisation and teamwork.
In last week’s live broadcast, the programme welcomed 2019 AFC Asian Cup and current QNB Stars League (QSL) champion Almoez Ali. Qatar´s record-breaking forward participated as the human and social legacy programme celebrated 22 consecutive weeks of GA Live and 150,000 viewers since April 2020.
The Qatar National Team and Al Duhail striker made history last year with the Qatar team, scoring a sensational overhead kick in the 12th minute against Japan to help his team to a 3-1 victory in the final of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. The player, alongside a young Qatar squad led by head coach Félix Sánchez Bas, went on to lift the trophy for their country for the first time in history.
The 24-year-old striker won the 2019 Asian Cup Golden Boot Award and went on to lift the 2019/2020 QNB Stars League title with Al Duhail after league games were paused during the pandemic.
Almoez Ali said, “My advice to young people, who wish to follow in my footsteps, is to love what you do. Whether it’s football or all kinds of sport, ensure you practice to keep reaching a higher level.”
GA has reached half a million beneficiaries around the world since being launched in 2010. The programme aims to reach 1 million beneficiaries by 2022.
