During its annual sohour, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy's (SC)Community Engagement programme announced a number of new community partners, while celebrating the successes and milestones of the last 12 months.

Five new community associations have been announced, taking the number of agreements to 44. The partnerships confirmed during the event are with Qatar's Lebanese, Korean, Austrian, Tanzanian and Gambian communities.

Nasser Al Khater, the SC's Assistant Secretary General for Tournament Affairs, attended the sohour, along with Khalid Al Jumaily, the SC's Community Engagement Manager, and representatives from the different community groups engaged with the SC.

Speaking at the event, Al Khater said: "The success of a mega-event as big as the World Cup relies first and foremost on the support of the host country community as we strive to deliver a unique experience for fans, players and officials.

"This annual gathering, along with the various initiatives we run throughout the year, help to ensure that all communities in Qatar are involved in the delivery of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It also provides an opportunity to gather feedback and recommendations to ensure we host a tournament that reflects Qatar's cultural diversity."

Al Khater continued: "We would like to thank all the communities here tonight for their contribution to the success of this programme and its objectives. We look forward to continuing our journey together as we aim to host a unique edition of the FIFA World Cup in 2022."

Al Jumaily said: "Tonight's event forms part of our efforts to connect and engage with all communities in Qatar, and keep them up-to-date on the latest progress being made with our preparations for 2022.

"We are delighted tonight not only to celebrate the successes we have achieved working with our various community partners, but also to announce new ones that will further support the realisation of our vision for the tournament."

The SC's Community Partnerships initiative sees members attend workshops that provide learning experiences. It also includes a Community Grant Scheme designed to empower and build the skills, capacity and confidence of communities in Qatar. It also regularly organises large-scale community events aimed at providing an opportunity for consultation and knowledge-sharing between the SC and local communities.

In addition, the Community Engagement programme also includes the SC Youth Panel: an ambassador programme that engages young people aged 14-21 who are passionate about the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ and its impact on their community. Another key project is the Accessibility Forum, which was launched in 2016 and works with national stakeholders to ensure that all 2022 FIFA World Cup™ venues and surrounding infrastructure are accessible to all.
