The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), in collaboration with INTERPOL, will host the 1^st Major Event Safety and Security Conference in Qatar on 7-8 November.

The conference, held under the Project Stadia banner, will review the global threat environment and implications for future major events. It will also look at planning implications for recent and upcoming events, along with critical infrastructure resilience procedures.

Project Stadia was established by INTERPOL and the State of Qatar in 2012. The ten-year project will contribute to policing and security arrangements for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, and leave a lasting legacy for the world's law enforcement community.

Major Ali Mohammed Al Ali, the SC's Deputy Executive Director for Security, said the conference will be a perfect opportunity for experts from around the world to share knowledge.

"We want to bring together security experts and stakeholders from around the world to share knowledge, expertise and best practices to keep major sporting events safe and secure," he said.

"The aim of Project Stadia is to create a centre of excellence and knowledge which will benefit all the 190 members of INTERPOL and leave a lasting legacy for mega sporting events. We also want to make it easier for countries to work together to ensure Qatar 2022 and other major events are safe, secure and enjoyable experiences for all visitors."

Major Ali also emphasised Qatar's commitment to learning from mega-event hosts since winning the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ seven years ago.

"Learning from other countries and mega events is very important – it's one of the central components of our approach to improve collaboration, cooperation and knowledge exchange," he explained.

"In recent years we have continuously visited the world's leading sporting events and observed the different agencies working hand-in-hand. This was the case during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and Euro 2016 in France. We will also attend next year's World Cup in Russia."

Qatar's ongoing relationship with INTERPOL was also praised by Major Ali.

"We have a strong working relationship with INTERPOL, which was strengthened when Qatar hosted the 79th INTERPOL General Assembly in 2010," he added.

"Since then we have continued to build on this important relationship and we see next month's conference as the next strategic step in further enhancing our cooperation."
