The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has launched a new website, specifically dedicated to the groundbreaking Generation Amazing programme.
The website – www.generationamazing.qa – highlights the work done since the programme launched in 2010, and details its achievements in each of its three pillars; Green Generation, Healthy Generation and Inclusive Generation.
The delivery of a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility programme was a key pillar of Qatar's 2022 FIFA World Cup™ bid and legacy commitment.
And the programme's Senior Manager, Isabel Gultresa, says the tournament and Generation Amazing provide a genuine avenue to use the power of football to instigate social change in communities across Qatar and around the world.
"The programme is driven by the belief that change works best when people lead it themselves," she said.
"Over the past seven years, Generation Amazing has delivered positive and sustainable programmes in Qatar and five other countries. We have sought to reach some of the world's most excluded people, including communities in Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan and Syria.
"In collaboration with our delivery partners, Reach Out To Asia, Right to Play and Mercy Corps, we have created safe spaces for young people to play football and implemented various social inclusion programmes."
As well as the work carried out across the world, the programme has also made a tremendous impact closer to home.
"In Qatar we have organised football for development sessions with more than 1,000 workers involved in the 2022 FIFA World Cup," Gultresa continued. "We have also delivered programmes to 800 children in 30 schools. These programmes will continue thanks to the training of more than 40 coaches across the country – a number that will rise further over the coming years."
With less than five years to go until the tournament kicks-off, the plan is to further grow Generation Amazing – by strengthening the existing offerings, as well as implementing several new ones.
"Our ambition is to impact more than 25 communities in at least seven additional countries," Gultresa added. "We ultimately want to reach 50 communities, including many with refugee populations.
"We anticipate that by 2022 an average of 20,000 people from each community will benefit from our initiatives and be empowered to overcome disadvantage and develop as leaders. Our ultimate aim is to reach more than 1 million beneficiaries by 2022."
