The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) recently participated in a key sustainability event organised by Tarsheed, the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, which is overseen by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA).
The SC has played a proactive role in promoting environmental sustainability, the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, through various means. In recent years, it has teamed up with KAHRAMAA to establish a long-term collaboration with Tarsheed, which aims to promote environmental awareness across the country.
Recently, SC employees attended the Sustainability Tarsheed Annual Event to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of an environmentally friendly lifestyle and the sustainability aspects of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
The event took place across three days at Kahramaa Awareness Park and was attended by 330 schoolchildren from 25 local schools.
SC Sustainability Experts Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Dr. Talar Sahsuvaroglu and Orjan Lundberg spoke to students about preparations for Qatar 2022 and emphasised the SC’s vision to deliver the most environmentally friendly FIFA World Cup™ in history.
Eng. Bodour Al Meer, the SC's Sustainability & Environment Senior Manager, said: “The SC promotes environmental sustainability as one of its core values. We are working to deliver a sustainable World Cup and drive positive change across the country, with sustainability at the centre of all of our infrastructure projects, notably the eight stadiums which will host the matches.”
The children in attendance also participated in a tailored Generation Amazing activation. The session introduced pupils to the football for development programme and included details about the different ways they can care for the planet.
