The construction of Education City Stadium, a proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ host venue, remains on track following the recent installation of 44 V-shaped columns.

More than 186,000m³ of reinforced concrete has been casted at the project site, while the installation of numerous vertical elements, such as columns, retaining walls and core walls, has been completed.

The next steps in the construction process include concreting the suspended slabs and installing the raker beams and bleachers.

Eid Al Qahtani, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy's Education City Stadium Project Manager, said: "We're very happy with the progress made on the project so far. For me, 2018 will be an exciting year and we're determined to keep up the pace of development."

Education City Stadium – nicknamed 'The Diamond in the Desert' – is located in the western area of Education City's south campus. Revealed in a ceremony in 2014, the stadium's design is inspired by complex geometrical patterns that pay tribute to traditional Islamic architecture.

Once complete, the stadium will become the focal point for Education City's sporting facilities and play a key role in Qatar Foundation's commitment to community development. In addition to football, the stadium will be able to stage leisure and entertainment events as the pitch and seating configurations can be altered accordingly.

The Education City Stadium project is being delivered by a joint venture involving J&P Qatar WLL, Conspel Qatar WLL and J&P‐Avax S.A. J&P (Overseas) Ltd. is in charge of the main construction.>
