The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy's (SC) flagship CSR programmeGeneration Amazing is broadening its reach among students following a recent pilot.
Two additional schools - Middle East International School and Saad Bin Abi Waqas Independent Model School for Boys - will feature in the main programme along with Newton International School, where a seven-week pilot starting in May featured more than 400 children.
The main programme will also seek to extend the popularity it had achieved with construction workers during the pilot. It will be held at Labour City and Al Khor, the venues of the pilot involving more than 350 formal participants and many onlookers.
The SC's Football for Development coach Mike Richardson, who devised the curriculum, said he was looking forward to the launch of the main programme: "What struck me during the pilot was the eagerness among the workers and children to interact with the curriculum. Not only did they love the football coaching and the practical drills but couldn't wait to learn more about the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar."
Richardson will be assisted by 40 volunteer coaches drawn from various communities during the main programme - 16 more than during the pilot.
The main programme will reach out to 500 workers from 12 contractors from Labour City and two from Al Khor, who have confirmed their participation.
The programme for children is intended to instill in them the spirit of inclusivity and multi-culturalism as well as foster a healthy lifestyle. The objective for the workers programme is to improve social and life skills.
Following the pilot, in excess of 180 feedback forms were completed by the workers who were participants, with nearly 90 percent of the respondents saying they will return for the official roll-out of the local project.
"The pilot has established beyond doubt the success of the curriculum as our modules were well sought by both the target groups," said Isabel Gultresa, Senior CSR Manager at the SC.
"Following the pilot, we looked at areas where more work was needed to achieve targeted outcomes and we have now addressed these issues. The main programme will now touch the lives of many more workers and students in Qatar, thereby recognizing these groups as central to ensuring the inclusive nature of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar."
Part of the SC's post-pilot preparations involved delivery of practical drills to the community coaches by the UK-headquartered Change Foundation, the partners of the Generation Amazing programme in Qatar.
Generation Amazing's four ambassadors in Qatar – all students who started their involvement in 2014 – will continue their good work among the local communities to spread the message of inclusivity, sustainability and health. Ambassadors from among the workers are expected to join the programme soon.
